Winter Wonderland

Article text
"The winter of 2009/2010 has been the coldest for 30 years. There was snow and ice on the ground for many weeks and the temperatures consistently low. This gave me a rare opportunity to experiment with the most ephemeral of natural materials: ice, snow and frost.

I spent a week in Ribblesdale in North Yorkshire in deep snow and low temperatures with every day different from the day before. Storms, blizzards, blue skies and fresh snow. Each day presented new opportunities as the structure of the frozen water changed and evolved. Powder, neve, soft and hard snow. Each meant that different sculptures were possible and by working with what was there I discovered more and more about the season of winter."
